A Message from the President
Thank you for considering joining our Red Lake Nation College (RLNC) family.
Like many of our students, I was the first member of my family to ever attend college. As first-generation college students, additional challenges such as the lack of higher education experience and lack of family role models who attended college, must be faced. Therefore, many of our students lack the strong support systems that many traditional college students take for granted.
The Red Lake Nation College addresses these challenges by providing above-and-beyond, personalized attention to every student. If you decide to attend the Red Lake Nation College, you are treated like family, not a student number. We begin by assisting each student as they complete the necessary paperwork to register for college and help them through the entire financial aid process.
RLNC's individualized support continues as all students receive FREE tutoring in Math, English or Science. The College also provides Success Mentors for students. This allows individualized student counseling or one-on-one lunch discussions with RLNC Staff, Faculty or Board Members to discuss college challenges and plan for future employment or educational plans.
Our purpose and motivation for creating the Red Lake Nation College is to provide an excellent higher education that is grounded in our Ojibwe language and culture. We are striving to enhance a stronger sense of Native self-identity, self-confidence, and improving academic skills so all students can move up to the next level of educational and professional success in the 21st Century job market.
Our ultimate vision is that RLNC students will move on to attain Bachelor’s Degrees, Master’s Degrees, Doctoral Degrees, or Professional Degrees and then return to the reservation as qualified Teachers, Business Managers, Government leaders, Doctors, Lawyers and Nurses to lead our reservation community to even greater prosperity.
To make this grand vision happen on a larger scale, our RLNC leadership and our Red Lake Tribal Government have invested in a new, $11.4 million dollar RLNC campus that was opened to the public by the Fall Term of 2015. This new campus will provide a world-class, high-technology, 21st Century learning environment for all students in Northern Minnesota.
We are building an exciting future and we invite you to Join Our Family and be a part of our family as a Red Lake Nation College student, team member or supporter. Miigwech (Thank You) for your consideration!
